Spring Lessons are on the horizon!
Hope this newsletter finds everyone well and that you all had a great holiday season and are staying warm. A few things have been happening during the off season and I will outline below. Next this newsletter is only being sent to families who have completed the Basic Training program and there are 155 of you, so THANK YOU for the past 3 years, 2014 is going to be amazing and I can't wait to get back in the water. I am still awaiting confirmation from Celebration regarding pool usage but Hunter's Creek is ready to go (once it gets a bit warmer consistently) with that being said Maintenance lessons will be offered in Celebration on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting February 25th assuming the air temp is above 70, the pool(s) is heated, and I have received confirmation from Town Hall by then. If you have a pool at your home and wouldn't mind other students coming that is also an option here in the beginning of the swim season (there need to be at least 3-4 students coming during the same time frame and the pool needs to be heated), if you are willing to allow other children to swim in your pool a discount is possible for your child's lessons. I may be on the hunt for another Hunter's Creek location so if you know of anyone with a pool willing to allow other children to swim in it and it is heated please call 574-286-2605 (note: this must be a private residence).
Dates students may start Basic Training or Refreshers on the following dates only: Apopka March 3rd (afternoons), March 10th (mornings), March 24th (mornings) Celebration & Hunter's Creek March 24th (afternoons & evenings) All locations March 31st, April 7th, April 14th, May 29th (only Thursday start date), July 7th Since you have all had a child swim with me in the past you will be given priority time slots for the beginning of the year as you know the times change during the year especially once school is out.
You can expect to see a little reluctance now with your children getting into the pool, especially if they have been out for 3 months or more. If you haven't done something in a while it usually takes a little effort to get your balance and regain confidence in yourself, the same applies to your children. They have not forgotten their skills, but their body weight has shifted as they have grown since I have seen them last. This is a reason I highly recommend that you get them into lessons right away in the spring, that way when it is warm enough to be in the water everyday your children are ready and can't wait to jump in! Refresher lessons are typically 4 days in length but depending on how long it has been since your child has swam with me it may take a bit longer, each child is different but that is a general guideline. Maintenance lessons can be started after Refresher lessons (they may begin right away if I last saw your child sometime in November). I will be emailing separately a student update form available for you to fill out prior to your child starting.Hope to see you in the pool soon!

Fundraiser for JDRF
A Little Fins student was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, he was just 15 months old at diagnosis and is now 16 months old. His mom and I have started a team, Jax's Journey for the updating Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk coming up on Saturday March 8th. Little Fins would like to make a donation to the team so if you get your child/children on the schedule before March 7th and put down a deposit of $15 which will go towards the cost of their lessons, $5 will be donated to Jax's Journey. Payment can be made via credit card by calling 574-286-2605 or mailing a check to 1924 Larkwood Dr, Apopka, Florida 32703. Jax thanks you in advance!
